The Future of St. Margaret's Convent, Roxbury
The Sisters are happy to announce that Emmanuel College is pursuing the purchase of St. Margaret's Convent in Roxbury for a proposed retreat and living-learning center. Emmanuel has posted more information on their plans for the Convent on their website Emmanuel College.
Proposed Retreat & Living-Learning Center on Fort Hill
Emmanuel College is pursuing the purchase of the property of the Sisters of St. Margaret located at 17 Highland Park Street in the Roxbury section of Boston. The College intends to use the site for programs related to its Mission. In the spirit of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who founded Emmanuel College, and who have served Roxbury since 1854, the College will include programs for retreats, reflection and prayer, spiritual direction, social justice, and service learning as well as some offices to support these programs on the site. The property will enable the College to initiate a living-learning community for Emmanuel students, especially for those students who give service in the area. Emmanuel College will invite neighbors and members of the local community to participate in its spiritual, cultural and educational offerings. We hope that the presence of Emmanuel College in the neighborhood will continue the quest for justice and peace initiated by the Sisters of St. Margaret.
If you have questions about Emmanuel or their proposed use of the property, please contact:
We ask that you keep the Sisters and Emmanuel College in your prayers during this time.
"For everything there is a season..."
For the past several years, we have been reviewing our financial situation in light of our commitment to our mission and ministries. After much prayerful discernment, we are now in the process of consolidating our center of operations to Duxbury. We are relocating to our Duxbury property which we have owned for over one hundred years. Selling the convent in Boston will allow the Sisters to devote more money, resources and energy to our varied ministries particularly to our mission in Haiti, which we began in 1927 and which suffered severe damage in the earthquake in 2010. It is our conviction that relocating to Duxbury will allow our community to live a simpler life in a smaller, more sustainable building. Please note, no new reservations are being taken for either the Boston or the Duxbury properties.
