Who Are the Sisters of St. Margaret?
|
|
The Sisters of St. Margaret are an Episcopal Religious Order of women called to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through
our worship and work, prayer and common life. Our commitment to God and to one another
is expressed through vows of poverty, celibate chastity and obedience.

What Do We Believe and Highly Value?
|
|
Our common life is guided
by the following core values:
- Love: We believe the self-giving love of Christ is
the model for our love for one another.
- Fidelity: We believe our faithfulness to God, to our
vows, and to one another binds us together in service to Christ.
- Joy:We affirm that our worship, prayer and service
are offered as acts of joyful celebration.
- Responsibility: We value mutual responsibility, each
Sister dependably doing her part in service to all.
- Trust: We affirm our trust in God and one another
which enables each of us and all of us to risk great things
for God.
- Courage: We strive for a spirit of fearlessness
in Christian service, encouraged and empowered by the
presence of the Spirit.
- Respect: We value lives of holy reverence,
seeking the living Christ in one another and in all creation.
- Hope:We trust God to work for good in all things and so wait in holy expectation
for the fullness of God's Reign.
A Profile of our Community
|
|
There are presently twenty-five Sisters,
two dogs and five cats in the community. The ages range from thirty to ninety-four! Members come from all
walks of life. Among them are former schoolteachers, nurses, musicians, and
administrators. The community is also multi-cultural. Five sisters are from Haiti,
two are from Canada, and one is from Tortola. Two sisters are ordained priests
in the Episcopal Church, and one is ordained as a transitional deacon in the
Diocese of Massachusetts.

"There is nothing I should dread more than that unreal, melancholy way
of going on which one sometimes sees among those who are in earnest in serving
God: as if it were impossible to be holy without ceasing to be natural,
as if to be earnest in self-devotion was necessarily to become dismal.
On the contrary, remember that cheerfulness, that the capacity of being
amused and amusing, nay more, that high spirits are a gift from God."
